In 2006, the idea for The Point was born around a table at The Crab House on Johns Island.
The women of the Ambrose family — Babs, Lyla, Sissy, Barbara, and Kim Ambrose — were gathered together when a simple conversation turned into something more. While discussing their shared love for the Lowcountry community, the women began imagining an organization where women could come together with a common purpose: to give back and support women in need throughout the islands and surrounding Charleston communities.
What began as an idea scribbled on a beverage napkin soon became reality.
Starting with just twelve women, The Point quickly grew into a dedicated group committed to service, friendship, and community impact.
Today, The Point is a thriving 501(c)(3) nonprofit of 35 women who continue to carry forward that original vision — gathering together to give, to learn, to share, and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women across the Lowcountry.
The Point was founded in 2006 by the women of the Ambrose family — Babs, Lyla, Sissy, Barbara, and Kim Ambrose.
What began as a conversation around a table at The Crab House on Johns Island — a simple goal shared over a beverage napkin — quickly became a powerful vision: an organization of women committed to giving back and making a difference in the lives of women in need across Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island, James Island, and West Ashley.
Known throughout the Lowcountry for their commitment to community and commerce, the Ambrose women believed that when women gather with purpose, meaningful change can happen.
What started as a loosely formed group of twelve women has grown into a thriving 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of thirty-five women dedicated to serving the Lowcountry community.
Rooted in fellowship and driven by purpose, The Point exists to support women in need while empowering its members through our mission:
To Give • To Gather • To Share • To Learn
